San Diego Swimming Pool Expansion Joint
Your expansion joint has multiple names such as deco seal and mastic. This is the thin rubbery material that separates the pool or spa coping from the rest of the deck. It is there to allow for expansion and contraction when the temperatures in the ground cause the pool or spa to shift.
The rubbery material has an average life expectancy of anywhere from 1 to 4 years though it can fail sooner if the pool or spa has shifted or settled in any way. When there are areas of the expansion joint/deco seal/mastic that have failed, you are likely to get soil erosion from water runoff that can cause cracks to occur in the deck or the coping.

Everything Swimming Pool Supplies always removes all of the old expansion joint material to ensure that we get the best possible adhesion to the deck and the coping. If this is not cleaned and prepared properly you may experience premature failure of the expansion joint.
We use the deco seal brand that comes in four basic colors consisting of tan, grey, black or white. We will typically add a thin layer of sand to the top of the deco seal to give it a more natural look that blends into your deck and coping.
